Hey, I’m Sophie.
Follower of Jesus.
Wife. Mama. Writer. Registered Nurse.
Nutritional Therapy Practitioner. Lover of people, nations, sunshine, coffee, and flowers.
I wear a lot of hats and have many a hobbies, but my absolute favorite place to be is tucked up in the Presence of God with my Bible, journal, and a hot cup of coffee at the crack of dawn before anyone else has risen for the day.
My husband, Nolan, and I created Maranatha with the intention of working towards generating sustainable income that would free us up to be fully available to the Lord, even if that meant being on the road or somewhere far across the sea. This website will continue to be the landing place for all of those endeavors.
For now, this will be your go-to place for all things hormones, holistic health, and nutrition. As always, my hope is that you see the steadfast Love of Jesus shine through all that we do, his heartbeat consistently setting the pace.
Maranatha Holistic Health
In the beginning of my nursing career, I wondered if nursing was really for me at all. There were a lot of things that I saw that I questioned - patients on endless lists of medications to treat the side effects of other medications; nurses and providers living off of caffeine, junk food, and stress hormones; women forced to birth their babies on their backs with legs in stirrups. A childhood vaccination schedule that includes around 70 vacc!nes. Western Medicine was not supportive of the way God designed our bodies - strong, capable, able to heal.
Spending time oversees, I also saw that there was a place for modern medicine. It saves countless lives every day. This is where my love of Emergency Room nursing came to be. I could meet people at their lowest and offer tangible solutions.
I also saw people thrive overseas on very little. Babies birthed by Mothers who trusted their bodies to do what God created them to do. Nature’s vitamins found in moringa leaves crushed into a powder and added to rice and beans. People turning to God to heal them, rather than reaching for another pill bottle.
When I became pregnant in 2020, I knew I wanted to birth my baby naturally, simply because I trusted God’s intricate design and had seen how this was the norm all around the world (and since the beginning of time). I toured a birthing center where we lived at the time and loved it. I unfortunately experienced a miscarriage shortly after, leaving me wondering what had gone wrong. We tried again the next month, got pregnant, and I quickly miscarried again.
This is when I reached out to the birthing center to ask if there was anything they could do. They promptly brought me in, drew some labs, and counseled me through one of the most difficult things I had ever walked through. I met with a midwife who reviewed my labs and asked me about my health history, lifestyle, and about what I ate.
Thus began my own health journey as my eyes were opened to the ways our body interacts with the food and environment around us. I had survived off of Pop Tarts, Cheez-its, blue Gatorade, and Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bars up until this point.
God began to shift things in my life and I actually landed a job at the birthing center where I got to work hand in hand with the most incredible team of midwives, nurses, and nurse practitioners. Still hoping to conceive another baby and carry to full term, I slowly began to change the way I ate and learned all that I could about women’s health, hormones, fertility, and all things pregnancy and postpartum.
It was a slow process, but I began to see changes in how I felt, never before realizing I had felt so miserable in the first place. I realized I had dealt with hormonal issues for most of my life, and I was ready to do the work of undoing the damage that had been done due to years of chronic childhood trauma, bad diet, and environmental toxin exposure (let’s not forget the eight years of hormonal birth control I was put on to “control” my heavy menstrual bleeding).
The longer I worked at the birth center, my heart became burdened by the immense amount of women who had faced similar struggles. It seemed that every woman had some kind of hormonal issues - a PCOS or endometriosis diagnosis, difficulty conceiving, miscarriages - all to be met with hormonal birth control or other heavy medications/interventions to temporarily alleviate symptoms or help them conceive as their only options.
My hormones leveled out, and I was able to conceive naturally and carry a healthy eight pound baby past full term after a year and a half of believing God to fulfill his promises. It was a two year journey after we first began trying to the day I finally held a healthy baby in my arms, but I am forever grateful for the health journey the Lord took me on through the process.
I don’t want people to experience the heartache of losing a baby or seeing a negative pregnancy test month after month before they realize that something may be off in their bodies. I want people to understand how beautifully God created us as his very temple and that there is a way to steward our health that can be a form of worship unto Him - trusting ultimately that HE is the Healer and the Giver of Life.
The more I learn about nutrition, the more I see just how intentional God was in even the food he gives us. Food, in it’s most natural form, is nutrient-dense, full of bio-available vitamins and minerals, nourishing, and life-giving. We have come so far from the cultures before us that understood this and nourished their bodies with real food. But there is a way forward, and there is hope.
I help women get to the root-cause of their hormonal issues through an in-depth nutrition and symptom analysis and help them begin their own health journey through one-on-one consultation, education, and food, supplement, and lifestyle coaching.
Jesus is good. Redemption is near. Thriving in hormone health (and overall, as God’s creation) is not just a possibility, but an achievable end. Let me show you how!
