The Fruit of The Womb
Ever since I can remember, I had always been drawn to the number sequence “713,” so much so that it seemed to always appear on the clock, on license plates, road signs, etc. Wherever I went, those numbers appeared, and little did I know that God had been speaking to me for a long time before I had even chosen to walk with him. It wasn’t until years later as an adult when I was reading the Bible and stumbled upon Deuteronomy 7:13 and instantly knew that this was not just a promise for God’s chosen people, Israel, but for me as well, as I have been grafted into his family through faith in Yeshua (Read Romans 11 for reference). The promises in the Old Testament are just as much for us now as they were for the Israelites then (& boy, oh boy, our lives will be forever changed if we dig in, figure out what God has said, and stand on those promises for our lives today). Truly, we are his people and he is our God! What a mighty miracle that is in itself.
So, I clung to Deuteronomy 7:13 before I really understood God’s love for me (something I will continue to learn for the rest of my life), years before I met Nolan, and long before I knew I would need it to carry me through a season marked by the pain of barrenness.
“He will love you, bless you, and MULTIPLY you. He will also bless the FRUIT OF YOUR WOMB and the fruit of your ground, your grain and your wine and your oil, the increase of your herds and the young of your flock, in the land that he swore to your fathers to give you.” Deuteronomy 7:13
Through two miscarriages and waiting to become pregnant again, I refused to use the word “infertility” because I held on to God’s promise that he loved me, has blessed (and will continue to bless) me, and will multiply me and bless the fruit of my womb. His promises are true, he is a God who cannot lie, and he will fulfill every Word he has ever spoken. When we learn to rest assured in this Truth, we will not be shaken by the storms of this world.
Although in the world’s standards, I did fit the definition of infertility (the persistent inability to conceive a child - typically taking longer than one year of trying to conceive), you would not hear that word come out of my mouth. I refused to agree with the words of the world and instead, turned to God’s eternal Word and stood my ground, no matter how disheartening the journey appeared to be in the day to day. In the midst of the heartache, we went to the store and bought our “Answered Prayer” onesie, hung it up in our room, prayed, and waited.
Instead of accepting a fate of “infertility” I would use the words, “my fertility journey” and read and declared scriptures (there’s many) that reveal God’s heart and promise for his children regarding their children. I opened my Bible in plain sight of the baby onesie and hoped against hope as month after month passed by without answer. In a modern world where fertility challenges run rampant and miscarriage/and sadly, abortion, is commonplace, God’s plan for family tells a different story. Yahweh says that children are a heritage and a reward (psalm 127: 3) and that the man who has many is blessed (psalm 127:5). He promises to give the barren woman offspring (isaiah 54) and to make her the joyful mother of children (psalm 113:9). To make matters more clear, the Bible in its entirety is filled to the brim with stories and testimonies of barren women who, by God’s hand, miraculously conceived. The very next verse in Deuteronomy states that “there shall not be male or female barren among you.” (Deuteronomy 7:14). Fertility has always been God’s promise to his people, and if you are in Christ, you get to glean from that promise.
“None shall miscarry or be barren in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days” (exodus 23:26). Obviously this is a standard we have yet to reach, but I truly do believe God has allowed me to walk this journey so that I could join the cry of prayers going forth for an entire generation of children that have been/are being lost due to miscarriage and abortion. Abortion is not the only thing stealing life from a generation - miscarriage/fertility issues are also at an all time high in our nation, and I don’t think it’s a coincidence. Where death has won in America for so long, I believe God’s heart is roaring for the next generation to come forth in LIFE for his name. The enemy hates children, and is especially threatened by children who will choose to walk with God. He will do anything he can to stop children from coming forth and the state of our nation is a pure example of that fact. I have been crying out for not only my own children, but for an entire generation of God’s people to come forth and be born into godly families and raised in his ways. I won’t stop until that Bible verse is true - none among his people shall be barren.
So if you have a desire to become a mother or father or if you have experienced infertility, miscarriage, death, or loss of any kind, believe. God is faithful and his plans will always prevail. Do not allow the condition of the world to sway you from the Truth of who God is. Read his Word. Cling to his Word. Declare his Word. And cry out in prayer until his Word prevails above our circumstances. His Word is our standard and the True reality from which we live.
My sweet child in my womb is the proof that God will do it. And what a sweet reward he is already.
